Permission to be silly!

Beautiful Human, I love the summer!

The long days mean more time to play outside after work. The warm sun makes a cool dip in the water so enticing, and the shade of a tree an invitation to sit and just be. So humor me for a minute...
Right now, stop reading and shake off the heavy weight of "adulting." Let yourself breathe, move, laugh, and get silly! Go outside and hug a tree, smell a flower, run through the sprinklers, or enjoy a cold beverage!

Life can be so challenging, and I applaud all of you out there doing the tough work of healing and growing. But I’m here to remind you that growth work doesn’t just have to be painful; it can also be so miraculous, joyous, and full of love, connection, and wonder! And I’m here for it all!

We are right in the heart of summer, a season that is asking us to soften, melt into the warmth of the sun, and remember what it feels like to run wild.

As babies and kids, our bodies, the world, and others are endlessly fascinating. Have you ever watched a child become engrossed with a rock or break out in a full-body smile when they are connecting with someone?

As we grow up, we often experience a disconnection from our bodies and our natural self- expression. We trade goofiness for self-censorship, wonder for worry, and curiosity for the endless to-do lists. Busyness and seriousness become synonymous with being a grown-up. Luckily, I’m a positive rebel in this regard...
It is time to make a powerful change and reclaim our joy!

And play is vital for our nervous system and for our well-being.

When we dedicate time to our joy, we allow our defenses and inner critics to drop. Our nervous systems can relax in a secure safety that allows for freedom to explore. And more importantly, we can find a true, unfiltered connection with ourselves and others.

Each summer I create mini adventures outdoors to let my inner child cut loose. Paddle boarding on the river has been a favorite lately. What about you? What are you doing to let your inner child really have fun this summer?

Create Your Dopamine “Menu”

When we are stressed or even bored, our brains naturally crave a quick chemical rescue, like scrolling on our phones or mindlessly snacking.

However, we can mindfully guide our nervous systems back to joy by creating a personalized Dopamine Menu, or list, of healthy, playful activities that truly feed our souls.

Bonus Points for listing these out ahead of time, so that we can give our brains an easy-to-use roadmap back to play in the present moment.
